"It is called Sumarbrandr, Sword of Freyr. Clarisse found it in an ancient ruins somewhere at Norway when she began her quest for "Franang's Falls". She was thrilled when one of her colleagues figured out that the sword was once in possession of an Old God, a Vanir named Freyr. It is said that the sword has the power over the light, not dulled easily, and able to fight without someone wielding it, though unfortunately, most of its magic had been diminished by the time she found it. In spite of their best efforts, the sword no longer able to fight on its own. It would be cool if this sword still has it, right?"

Sumarbrandr is a legendary weapon featured in Little Witch Academia: Witches of Midgard.

Description & CharacteristicsEdit

Sumarbrandr is an ancient magic sword of Vanaheimian origin, said to possessed the power over the light, not dulled easily, and able to fight without someone wielding it. Originally belonged to Freyr, the Vanir gave up the sword to his messenger Skirnir to propose a marriage to the female Jotunn Gerd. Unfortunately, this act eventually led to his demise at hands of fire Jotunn Surtr who killed him with Surtalogi, Sumarbrandr's fiery counterpart, during Ragnarok, the great war between Jotnar and allied forces of Nine Olde Witches and Norse Gods. During the same war, Sumarbrandr disappeared.

For centuries, the sword remained lost until Clarisse, the Blade Storm Valkyrie, uncovered the missing Sumarbrandr in an ancient ruins somewhere at Norway during her search for the meaning behind the phrase "Franang's Falls". By the time she found it however, the sword had lost much of its powers and in spite of her best efforts to restore it, even with help of her colleagues at Thapoli, the weapon no longer able to fight on its own. Despite this shortcoming, Sumarbrandr's light magic is still powerful than typical magic sword forged by best witch-blacksmiths in Midgard. A swing from the weapon can release crescent-shaped projectile made of burning light, and a slam to the ground can release omni-directional light shockwave. As demonstrated by Amanda, the experienced user of Sumarbrandr can manipulate its power output and even utilize it for other purposes such as healing injuries similar to healing magic.
